Located at the southern tip of the Kagoshima Perfecture, the ancient cedar forest on Yakushima had been a site of commercial logging by Japanese since the 15th century. On the island that never stops raining, some of the cedar trees have been estimated to be over 1000 years old. Various routes on the island provide various options from day hike/trail running to 3-4 day backpacking.
